Stephanie Plum Between the Numbers Series This is a story that has three main scenarios, all of which lead to the message that this book is sending: (1) why men and women attempt to enter the United States from Mexico, Central and South America illegally, and (2) the horrific perils they face when they attempt to enter without a permit. We will leave you guessing just who this is and how it works out. Each novel in the series features a unique wedding. Lovers of romantic suspense will enjoy the light-hearted moments between Mike, his girl, friends and family, as well as his super dog, Lady, who has been a favorite of readers of this series. Mike has a girl friend, Juliette who he continues to see, during his off hours. At one point he is called away from Carson City to reinforce and help patrol the border, with its smugglers, snipers and dangerous desert conditions.Īlso, he is trying to infiltrate the West Coast Drug Cartel in order to learn more about their operations and bring them to justice. Mike McBride, stationed in the fictitious town of Carson City, New Mexico, deals with multiple incidences of crime in his town and along the border with Mexico. One thread of the plot deals with a poor immigrant from South America making the terrible journey up through Mexico to cross the border into the United States. The book is incredibly exciting, and timely. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Possession byattIn the tale, Maud and Roland desire “clean white beds” Ash desires “the white lady,” Christabel, who is “white in the dark” and Christabel's poems refer to white hands, linen, milk, bones, crosses, and “marbling nakedness.” The reader, meanwhile, desires to possess the white page of the text–to come to “know” the text–much as a lover comes to “know” her beloved. I contend that the achromatic color white functions as a trope of desire and imbricates the pairs of lovers and the reader in a longing that can be fulfilled only through reading the white page. In the 1990 Booker Prize-winning novel Possession: A Romance, however, Byatt theorizes on art and chromatics more indirectly in fact, she leaves the chromatic spectrum almost entirely, spinning a tale, a text(ile) woven in an achromatic hue: white. Painting for Robin is “a series of problems, really, inexhaustible problems, of light and color, you know” (70). With The Matisse Stories (1996) her discussion moves into the theory of complementary colors in the story “Art Work,” through the painter Robin Dennison. In Still Life (1985) Byatt intentionally saturates her text with musings on art and color bordering on the didactic, she devotes long passages to Van Gogh's chromatics and individual characters' theories on art. Byatt, who won the Booker Prize for it the year it was published. It is based on the 1990 novel of the same name by British author A. Byatt frequently writes about art and color theory in her fiction. Possession is a 2002 romantic mystery drama film written and directed by Neil LaBute and starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Aaron Eckhart. 5/24/2023 0 Comments The Chief by Monica McCartyBut five years later, the once scrappy orphan Gregor took under his protection has become a woman. But when his infamous face is exposed during a covert mission, Gregor is forced to lay low. Gregor is considered the most handsome man in Scotland, and his fame as an archer is rivaled only by his reputation with the lasses as a heartbreaker. The talents of legendary marksman Gregor "Arrow" MacGregor are crucial now, as Bruce moves to reclaim his Scottish holdings. Fearless and indomitable, no men are more loyal to their king, or cherished by the women they love. As King Robert the Bruce of Scotland plots to retake his English occupied castles, he needs the stealth and skill of his elite soldiers, the Highland Guard. Recent developments including the controversial leaks by the American intelligence official Edward J. Drawing on over forty years of experience studying intelligence agencies and their activities, he explains the three primary missions of intelligence: information collection and analysis, counterintelligence, and covert action, before moving on to explore the wider dilemmas posed by the existence of secret government organizations in open, democratic societies. Johnson guides readers skilfully through this shadowy side of government. In the second edition of his definitive introduction to the field, leading intelligence expert Loch K. About the Book National security intelligence is a vast, complex, and important topic, made doubly hard for citizens to understand because of the thick veils of secrecy that surround it. On the day of the departure, Germany issued a warning in the newspapers warning any ships, including merchant ships, not to use the waters surrounding Britain. In the months prior to the Lusitania departure, German submarines had successfully maneuvered the sea destroying many ships including ones that carried neutral merchants. The Lusitania was the fastest ship liner at that time after setting a record for the fastest journey across the Atlantic Ocean in the year 1907. Written by people who wish to remain anonymousĭead Wake is a nonfictional book that describes the events following the Lusitania’s final journey in the year 1915. What's going on here is an emotional mud-wrestle between two completely ill-equipped morons with the collective mental capacity of a sesame seed. Kate has surely attempted to make Luce and Daniel's relationship 'healthy' by having Luce "question her destiny", but that's not really what's going on here, is it? No. At that simple stage, I could see the San Francisco setting and the early descriptions of Shoreline were fine. And I mean good not great, but good enough. The first two or three chapters were good. The writing style is less sticky and doesn't cut itself off. If I'm being honest, I will hold my hands up and say that Torment is a monumental improvement on Fallen. I wondered, what if I was wrong? What if the first book was just a false start? Maybe I should give Kate another chance? When I picked up this book, it had been about nine months since I read Fallen, and the choking feeling had subsided. |
